History
2010 ELCA moves into the EPFL’s Innovation Square, where it sets up a research unit to improve test processes. By the end of the year, ELCA takes over the company AmmA Interactive, who is specialised in ergonomic user interfaces. With growth of 8%, ELCA exceeded both its own forecasts as well as the average market development, reporting revenue of CHF 76.8 million, the best results in the company's history. The number of employees is well above 500 worldwide.
2009 Despite difficult economic situation which also leaves tracks on the IT sector, ELCA shows with a turnover of CHF 71.1 million a strong performance. The SBB, the Swiss Federal Railways, appointed ELCA "best supplier in the IT-project business".
2008 In the year of information technology, ELCA celebrates its 40th year of existence as one of the largest independent Swiss IT services companies. As a partner of Informatica 08, the initiative of the year of IT, ELCA is actively promoting the image of the profession.
2007 ELCA Zurich celebrates 15 years of the Zurich branch office and enforces its ECM competencies with the takeover of Unicare Informatik AG. With growth to a total of more than 400 employees, another milestone in the history of ELCA is reached. The offshore development subsidiary of ELCA in Vietnam passes CMMI (Capability Maturity Model Integration) Grade 3 evaluation. ELCA Informatica SL is officially opened on 1 September 2007 in Madrid. The main task of the Spanish branch office involves serving its parent company in Switzerland as a nearshore development centre.
2006 ELCA receives the SOFI Recognition Award for its exemplary commitment in Vietnam, where at the end of the year more than 80 employees working. With turnover of more than CHF 57 million, the company achieves the best result in its history.
2005 The production centre in Vietnam already has over 50 employees working on 33 projects. With the SecuTix solution bringing the list of customers to over 20, the solution is now in use in countries such as France, Germany, Spain and Switzerland.
2003 Consolidation of know-how in the security field: electronic signature and electronic payments, strong authentication (ELCARD) and document backup via the Internet (SecuTix electronic ticket counter) and general high-availability systems. The French national railways SNCF opt for SecuTix as an online ticketing solution.
2002 Crucial breakthrough in the field of banking and insurance. Confirmation of potential in the transport, e-government and health segments. ELCA maintains its turnover, net profit and staff numbers despite a difficult economic environment.
2001 Setup of two new departments, Marketing and Business Consulting. Daniel Gorostidi succeeds Josef Egger as Chairman of the Board of ELCA Holding. The number of employees passes the 300 threshold, while turnover exceeds 50 million.
2000 Completion of the management buy-out undertaken in 1999: the new holding company, ELCA Holding AG, takes over the shares held by Swiss Federal Railways (SBB). Numerous partnerships are struck with leading market participants.
1999 Further acceleration of growth and the first stage of the management buy-out by the management of the company with the purchase of the shares of the three original shareholders.
1998 The 30-year company anniversary of ELCA is crowned by turnover of 25 million francs, 150 members of staff and the start of international expansion with the establishment of a production centre in Vietnam.
1997 Thanks to the successful branch office in Zurich the share of sales in German-speaking Switzerland grows strongly.
1995 Continuation of the expansion in German-speaking Switzerland with the establishment of a branch office in Bern, following the Geneva office (1994).
1993 Daniel Gorostidi succeeds Claude Brossy as Managing Director of ELCA. Certification to ISO 9001. The majority shareholding in the Matrix company allows entry into the field of document management.
1992 Development of market presence in German-speaking Switzerland through the foundation of a branch office in Zurich.
1990 New company name as an expression of the change in corporate philosophy. Electro-Calcul becomes ELCA Informatique SA or ELCA Informatik AG.
1988 Crucial turning point as Swiss Federal Railways (SBB) join the circle of shareholders (after Ascom in 1987).
1984 Energie Ouest Suisse EOS joins Grande Dixence SA to become the second shareholder of Electro-Calcul, which employs around 20 staff.
1977 Electro-Calcul invests in the development of a new product for production control, which is based on a new concept: databases.
1970 The company begins systematically cultivating the market in the field of process control. As a result, the industrial clientele is substantially expanded.
1968 Foundation of the company Electro-Calcul by a team of engineers. First application is the computing centre to control the facilities of the Grande Dixence dam (Valais canton). The installation is the first facility with computer-aided process control in Switzerland.
