With growth of 8%, ELCA exceeded both its own forecasts as well as the average market development, reporting revenue of CHF 76.8 million for the 2010 business year, the best results in the company's history.
ELCA was already somewhat ahead of the sector as a whole when it reported a substantial increase in activities at the beginning of 2010, due primarily to a rise in order volume. The company also benefited from the strong expansion of its customer base in 2009 and was able to once again grow its market share. As a result, ELCA far exceeded its targets for 2010, reporting revenue of CHF 76.8 million and net profit of CHF 1.1 million while keeping investments in research and development on CHF 10 million.
CEO Daniel Gorostidi attributed the good result to the strong rise in the company's recognition: "Our services have never been subject to such demand and our standing in the market has never been as high as it is today." This trend was also supported by the company's high degree of competitiveness – in 2010 ELCA was able to gain a prominent major company as a new customer against two well-known international competitors – as well as by the strategic decision to establish itself increasingly as a preferred partner for multinational companies.
Its sound reputation and the fact that ELCA has remained loyal to its culture and values made it possible for ELCA to attract top-flight professionals. This is a crucial advantage in a toughly contested market. Within the space of only one year, ELCA recruited more than 70 new employees, for the first time raising its workforce to well over 500. What is more, the takeover of AmmA Interactive enabled ELCA to expand its management staff. The company has a comparable corporate culture and working practices as it was founded by former ELCA employees. ELCA's merger with this company further underlines its intention to build on its expertise in the area of ergonomics, which is of vital importance in today's IT sector, as well as its data security and confidentiality know-how. ELCA plans to step up its efforts in these three areas even further in the future.
As in the previous year, ELCA once again spent CHF 10 million on research purposes in 2010. "We are working continually on expanding and driving forward our company's expertise and technological edge," comments CEO Daniel Gorostidi on the company's annual investments in research and development. "Furthermore, we have opened a new research unit in the 'innovation centre' of the École Polytechnique Fédérale de Lausanne dedicated to three growth areas – securing documents on the Internet, software testing methods and cloud computing." This commitment further strengthens ELCA's competitiveness and enables the company to look forward with confidence to another successful year.
