What is GDPR?

The EU General Data Protection Regulation, in short “GDPR” is due to take effect on the 25th May 2018 and is a legal requirement which all companies must meet that process and use personal data. It concerns companies that operate in the EU but has also to be adhered by companies outside of the EU that process personal data of EU residents.

In other words, the law imposes new rules on companies, government agencies, non-profits, and other organizations that offer goods and services to people in EU or that collect and analyze data tied to EU residents – no matter where they are in the world.

Why is GDPR critical?

The European Parliament approved and adopted the GDPR in April 2016. Its enforcement will begin on the 25th May 2018. As a result, companies that fail to meet certain GDPR requirements may face legal consequences.
