Automation and Pipelines in Security Operations (Master Thesis / Internship)


To quickly scale complex modern infrastructure requires not only that you are able to define and apply a security policy to your systems, but also that you are able to apply that security policy programmatically or make changes as a response to external events.  As such, proper automation tools are necessary building blocks that allow you to apply the appropriate actions in a fast, simple, and consistent manner.

Security operations teams can create workflows in pipelines that automate security processes and integrate security management processes with other IT tools like ticketing and GRC systems.

Security Orchestration, Automation and Remediation (SOAR) tools can be used to orchestrate higher-level security workflows or even respond automatically to security incidents by adding hosts to blacklists or adding firewall deny rules. 


In this role

  • Evaluate open source and commercial solutions available for automated management of firewall configuration and security rules via a REST API’s and SSH.
  • Implement a proof-of-concept firewall change and review workflow with Ansible & Jenkins or similar tools.

About your profile

  • Good foundation in networks and network security.
  • Firewall Knowledge (Checkpoint, Cisco ASA,) and firewall rules.
  • Working knowledge of CI/CD pipelines, Jenkins, Ansible, Git etc
