Digital transformation in the health sector in the face of COVID-19 (Internship/ Diploma Thesis)



Digital Transformation is everywhere, and COVID-19 has shifted priorities for many industries and services. The focus of this internship is on the health care sector and how the Microsoft Power Platform can support the agility of health organizations to quickly adapt to crisis situations.

The Microsoft Power Platform allows to support the digital transformation by radically simplifying the creation of business applications, ease data exchange and get to relevant information and actionable insights easily with a rich toolset for data analysis and artificial intelligence.

This internship project is about:

  • assessing existing processes (patient admission, capacity planning, communication between departments and authorities…), the usage of different (digital) channels (website, chat, email, etc.) in health organizations.
  • identifying the business value of implementing Microsoft Dynamics 365 solutions based on the Microsoft Power Platform
  • creation of a prototype

Challenges: In this internship, you’ll have to identify health organizations in need for process optimizations and allowing you to perform an impact analysis of crisis situations like COVID-19 on their existing business processes. Keep a focus on sustainability and try to follow a patient centric approach, facilitating access to health services, reducing waiting times, etc.

Collaborate with the ELCA sales team, the business lines for health-care and customer interaction management to get access to health organizations, Understand the industry and possible technical solutions. Identify areas where technology like the Microsoft Power Platform and Dynamics 365 could help to become more agile.

Project application: Health organizations (e.g. Hospitals, clinics, group practices…).

What you will learn: You will be a Junior Business Application Consultant, gain knowledge of the processes in the health sector, get familiar with business analysis / requirements engineering and develop skills to develop solutions with Dynamics 365 / MS Power Platform.

In this role


In this project, the goal is to:

  • Identify health organizations that are impacted by COVID 19
  • Analyze existing processes with potential for improvements
  • Assess the value proposition of Microsoft Dynamics 365 and the Microsoft Power Platform for those companies
  • Create a prototype with a full customer journey and demonstrate the improved processes using the Microsoft Power Platform.

  • Required: Software engineering and programming skills
  • Good communications skills
  • Interest in organization processes and digital channels to interact with customers/employees/patients.
