Robotic Process Automation and AI: Evaluation and prototyping(Internship/ Diploma Thesis)

Human work is in constant transformation and today, all kind of robots are being designed, to automate manual and tedious repetitive tasks.

This idea is at the core of process optimization. RPA, a new generation of technologies is rapidly emerging to propose a pragmatic solution to process optimization in IT: automate what user does in his daily interactions with the software available in his organization, if it can be learned by a robot.

The goal of this internship is to implement a demonstrable RPA solution and to evaluate the associated technologies in a document management context:

  • How mature are the RPA solutions in general, and for automated document processing? What can be done reliably? What are the limitations?
  • How decision making of RPA bots can be supported by Artificial Intelligence models?
  • How Business Process Model (BPM) solutions can be enhanced with RPA?

Activities: Contribute to the development of a prototype allowing automatic classification and indexing of documents. Test the interoperability of the developed solution with AI engines and BPM, allowing usage in heterogenous contexts. Share findings and ideas to receive the feedback from the artificial intelligence and architecture business lines. Implement a demonstrator using modern technologies.

What you will learn: depending on your skills and profile, you will contribute to and learn about: solution design, requirement gathering, RPA in realistic business scenarios, reviews and demos. By being confronted with early market reality and heterogenous stakeholders you’ll develop precious skills for future successful professional interactions.

Keywords: RPA, AI, enterprise integration, prototyping, ECM

In this role

The objectives of this project are:

  • To build an RPA minimal demonstrator (MVP) interoperable with an ELCA’s BPM provider
  • To evaluate integration possibilities with artificial intelligence modules developed by ELCA
  • To compare RPA with “classic” ECM input management solutions
