Project Manager at ELCA ZH
How did you hear about ELCA?
In my former position I had to travel a lot and wanted to find a position where the travelling was less frequent, or even where I could work locally. For family reasons I was looking for a job in the Basel area and started searching on Google. The second hit was ELCA, which became my first choice.
What is your role exactly?
My job as a project manager has many facets. First, we need to win a mandate, then the work really starts: defining scopes, conducting business analysis through a workshop with the customer and development team, reviewing and accepting detailed specifications, implementing the requirements using agile methodology, delivering the project on time and within budget, customer training, and much more. These aspects always happen in very close cooperation with the client. As a project manager at ELCA I’m involved in this Iterative and incremental development from the very beginning, i.e., it’s end-to-end involvement using agile methodologies such as Scrum. This means I need to manage teams and resources, set the appropriate sprint goals and ensure we get into production step by step, and this in full agreement with the client: I’m very happy to say I just completed my first project successfully.
What fascinates you about your job?
In the first place it’s the management of the team, which I really enjoy. Also, to work with different customers and different industries – from retail to manufacturing – is something I find not only challenging, but very interesting and rewarding. Team organization, project management, close interaction with the customer, being accountable from A-Z and finally to see a happy customer is a great feeling.
What do you especially like about ELCA?
Besides having my office in Basel, I’m given complete freedom to run my projects as I see fit. That means considering what’s best for the client, my team and the company. This, in combination with the support and trust given by the management team, makes the work at ELCA an outstanding experience. I also enjoy the professionalism of the teams, my colleagues and the support I’m given to bring a project to a successful conclusion. My colleagues are very open to helping and providing support. The informal cooperation is definitively a component that makes a difference. I feel I have the trust of my colleagues and of management. And of course, as mentioned, the combination of the position and the new and modern offices in the center of Basel is just ideal for me.
