Sommet Education is the world's leader in hospitality education and comprises 5 institutions, 10 000 students and 10 000 learners over 20 campuses throughout the world. Each campus has its own unique identity and programme specialisations. Their IT Team is based mainly in Lausanne and Spain. This team support and manage student journey, from a potential student to a graduated student. It involves the use of multiple software services. These include a legacy student management system being phased-out in favor of a new Saas solution software.
Sommet Education faced the challenge to integrate student management related services together in a streamlined and automated way while supporting their legacy solutions as they migrate to their new system.
As an interim solution, while they were transitioning to their new student management system, Sommet has contracted suppliers to make the temporary legacy integration using a low-code technology: Azure Logic Apps.
For the longer term, Sommet Education mandated an external provider to design and implement a custom Data Hub solution that would serve as a platform for the integration centered around their new student management system.

Successful Migration Project starts with a proper architecture design.
Due to concerns with the deliverables along this project and the importance of a scalable solution and proper design, Sommet Education decided to mandate the ELCA Architecture expert team to review the design and develop a solution.
Sommet also tasked ELCA with ongoing responsibility of the Data Hub solution review and this included bringing it to a Minimum Viable Product state.
In partnership with ELCA Advisory, this analysis documented important gaps in requirements and led us to advise the client to move from the Data Hub in favor of a simpler but better fitting custom integration solution. A new solution leveraging Azure services, custom code, and our previous experience designing similar platforms for other customers was recommended.
This way, a small but efficient ELCA team of one analyst and one solution architect were able to specify, design and implement the Business Integration Platform with the most urgent integration processes in time for the go live of Sommet Education’s new Student Information System.
This ELCA’s solution provides Sommet Education with a modern and flexible platform for their integration requirements. This platform was built on best practices for modularity, reliability, and observability to support the client’s integration needs in the long term.
